The beginning of a long journey...

It's been half a year since I last wrote anything on here. I stopped using my Twitter and kind of fell out the blogging band wagon. But as I'm about to start a skin journey I asked people on Twitter if they'd like me to document it and surprising people did!

Let's start with a bit of background. When I was in secondary school I was quite lucky to have pretty good skin. I had the odd spot here and there but generally felt super secure and confident about how my skin looked without makeup.

When I started university, just before my 19th birthday I began noticing how my skin was changing. Not only was I a hell of a lot spottier than previously, I also started getting dry patches and really oily patches across my t-zone.

I started wearing a lot more make up. I know as you get older you can become much more self aware but it really started to get me down. As the year went on I finally went to my GP. It took me a lot to do this. With someone who suffers from panic disorder I was terrified I was being over dramatic as everyone always told me my skin looked fine.

But then things got worse... My GP used the words 'cystic acne' which basically describes exactly what I was going through. Hard, solid, sore lumps under the skin that just would not shift!! Annoying. After going to the GP the doctor prescribed me a strong Benzoyl Peroxide cream. The first few weeks were completely fine but all of a sudden my skin switched. It was the sorest it had ever been, it was super red, dry and flakey and absolutely everything made it burn BAD.

This was one of the lowest points. I cried at the thought of going to work (customer service = serving customers all day) because I was so self conscious and I couldn't put anything on my skin to even attempt covering the huge red spots I had all over my face. I felt like I didn't want to go out because someone might comment on my redness and yes, people did. I was called greasy, spotty and even asked if I'm sun burnt and it hurt me.

To top it all of last year I was told I also had rosacea which totally made sense because all across my cheeks, nose and chin are completely red 24/7 and spider veins began popping up. FAB.

Of course, back to my GP I went. I basically cried and cried until he finally said he'd refer me to a dermatologist. After waiting nearly 7 months and having cancelled appointments I have finally had my first ever proper dermatologist appointment!!!! YAY.

I've been told I'll be put on roaccutane which is something I have done a hell of a lot of research on and I won't lie I'm both terrified but buzzing about the possibility of having nice skin!!! I have had a blood test and will be finding out in the coming week what's going to happen next.

I'm totally up for blogging about my experience on roaccutane and might even do some sit down or vlog style videos about how I'm finding the whole skin journey.

Watch this space!!!

*Disclaimer* Posting about my acne and the struggles I've faced with my mental heath is something that takes a lot to do and I would appreciate it if you could respect that. Please remember that everyone has different ways of going through/dealing with these sorts of things

KIKO // Pigment Loose Eyeshadow

*Disclaimer: Be prepared for lots of love heart eye emojis. This is something to rave about*

Loose eyeshadows were always something I tended to stay away from. I always just thought messy. But who knew I could be so wrong... In fact I was so wrong that I have now gone to the complete opposite end of the scale and have become slightly obsessed. (Another make up obsession really isn't what my bank needs!)

I 100% think this KIKO pigment in Cocoa is such a dupe of MAC Pigment Deep Brown. And with over £10 price difference how could you not want this?! The colour pay off is beautifully amazing. It's quite matte in colour and is defo one for a smokey eye. It blends out perfectly. The name of the pigment says it all. It's a really deep dark brown. It can either be used as a dark colour or blended out for a more neutral look.

Anyone else got any pigments they would recommend? Really getting into them lately.

L'Oréal Paris // Infallible

L'Oréal Paris have quickly became my favourite drugstore make up brand. The infallible range was such a big hype and since then they have released another infallible sculpting range. (Watch this space for more on that in the future.) I instantly fell in love with everything in the range and managed to buy all (I think) of the products and have been testing them out for the past month.

Anyone who loves the Urban Decay setting spray will love this product! It does exactly what it says on the tin and without making your face feel cakey or sticky and for under £10. Result. I mainly use this on nights out which to be honest is a real tester for a product! I find my makeup lasts hours longer and doesn't flake or rub off at all. It doesn't use a lot of product either, I tend to use two sprays across my forehead and then the middle of my face. 100% recommend this.

For anyone who noticed in the really bad quality photo I have uploaded (I promise I will invest in a good camera soon, sit tight!) you can see I have two of the foundations. This is purely for the fact that I couldn't find a colour that suited my skin tone so I mix two colours together. These are Vanilla and Natural Rose. This foundation is very high coverage and I use it mainly when I am going out or know I won't have any time in the day to top up my makeup purely because it lasts for so long! The foundation blends so well into my skin and leaves a velvet/matte type of look on my skin. This definitely isn't a dewy look kinda foundation but it does leave a very flawless look!

I've always been dubious about primers and whether they actually work or not but lately my skin has been quite bad and oily so I decided to invest in a matte version to stop my skin from glowing! I have noticed a massive difference since using this product. It 100% preps my skin for my foundation and mattifies my skin to stop my foundation looking cakey. The only thing I wish was different is the size of the tube. It is quite small for something I use everyday :(

A matte foundation is a must. The coverage from this product is amazing. It covers my blemishes and redness so well and doesn't dry out areas such as around my nose at all. It reduces any shine on my face and applies so easily. If I don't want to use it all over my face I do sometimes just use it as a concealer to stop any oily shine from going on!

Anyone else tried anything from the range?

Chapstick // Smoothie Mixstix

The cold weather always leaves my lips feeling super dry and horrible so I've been on the search for something that would rehydrate them. I've tried tons of different chapsticks but none has lasted long and most medical ones taste or smell horrible!

The other day I popped into my local boots to find this super cute double ended chapstick. I've never seen this type of chapstick before so I was instantly interested. The novelty of this product is one of the things I love the most. One end is banana flavoured and the other is strawberry. You can mix both flavour together like it suggests or just use one end at a time. The smell and flavour is very sweet and intense which I personally love. Even when you look past the super cute packaging and all the jazz of a two in one product the overall product does do what it says on the tin. And it does it very well. Since using this chapstick my lips feel smooth and moisturised.

Strawberry end

Banana end

Any great novelty products you've come across recently?

Would you rather... // Beauty Edition

I thought this year I would mix up my blog posts a little bit. Instead of the normal beauty review posts I thought having a few chatty posts throughout the year would be nice. So grab a seat boo's this is gonna be a rambley one.

Beauty tags are always fun to read and I find it interesting what other bloggers have to say. So, to kickstart this switch up I thought I'd do the Would You Rather Beauty Edition. I know that there are a few different ones online but this is the one I most recently saw being shared on my bloglovin' page!

1. Would you rather go out with messy hair and nice makeup or nice hair and no makeup?
100% messy hair and nice makeup. I do this already... I love a messy bun! I much prefer spending time doing my makeup than my hair because my hair NEVER goes right.

2. Would you rather shave your eyebrows off or have your eyelashes fall out?
This is so hard because I love my eyebrows and eyelashes! But, seen as you can more easily fix your eyebrows by drawing them on, I'd rather shave them off. Imagine having no eyelashes??? The amount of stuff you'd get in your eyes would drive me insane.

3. Would you rather be forced to shop at MAC or Sephora for the rest of your life?
Sephora is basically the mothership of makeup. I love loads of different brands that Sephora sell. Even though it's a lot easier to find a MAC store in the UK, I would rather Sephora for the rest of my life.

4. Would you rather wear the lipgloss/lipliner look or have an 80's perm?
I have naturally crazy curly hair so I would never ever get a perm. I know some people do the lipgloss with lip liner look. I think if you combine a very pigmented gloss and light lip liner it can actually look alright!

5. Would you rather leave the house with an obvious foundation line or over done blush?
This is probably the hardest question yet because both look absolutely ridiculous... I would have to go with the over done blush. Sometimes you can pull off a rosy red cheek! I think an obvious foundation line is one of the first things someone notices and no one likes the orange line!

6. Would you rather wear MC hammer pants or biker shorts?
The hammer pants of course. MC hammer pants can be pulled off way easier than biker shorts. Who even wears biker shorts except bikers?! I think in the summer MC hammer pants can kinda work!

7. Would you rather have a bad orange spray tan or weird tan lines that can't be covered?
I've actually experience both of these. Woops! I'd go for the bad spray tan. Tan lines can last for months and a spray tan can last for a week or so!

8. Would you rather have a bad hair cut or bad hair colour?
Bad hair cuts have happened many times before and so have bad hair colours. I'd go for the hair cut as it can grow out or you could always pop it up with bobby pins or hair ties. Bad hair colour can last longer and be way more damaging for your hair which isn't worth it!

9. Would you rather have Youtube or Twitter taken away forever?
This is a tough one because I spend a massive amount of my time tweeting and communicating with other bloggers but also supporting and watching Youtubers. I'd have to go with Youtube as Twitter is such an important social media site for my blogging and has been a place where I have become part of a community with other bloggers!

10. Would you rather give up using makeup brushes or using mascara?
Makeup brushes for sure! I used to apply makeup all the time with just my hands or makeup sponges. Not exactly the most professional way I know, but what's a full face of makeup with mascara?! I know you could use fake eye lashes but no one needs to be doing that everyday!

Leave any of your answers to these below! I love reading them!

Winter Reds // Lipstick Review

Winter is my favourite time of the year. It brings jumper season, duvet days and dark nights. However, the main reason I really love winter is because I get to wear my favourite lip colours every day without looking like I'm a vamp wanna-be.

Red's at this time of year are perfect. I would love to pull a Taylor Swift and rock a red lip every single day of the year but unfortunately I am not blessed with suiting a bold bright red. Instead, I'm more of a dark burgundy kinda girl! So, as it's now the middle of the season I thought I'd share with you lovely readers what my top 3 shades are. (And boy it was like picking a favourite child!)

The first shade I'm going to start with is the most recent lip shade I have added to my collection. Mac Diva. I have been searching online and in store for this shade since the beginning of October. It was sold out for months but finally it is back on the Mac Cosmetics website! Hooray!
This shade is very, very, very matte. It's very intense burgundy shade and lasts on the lips for hours. Trust me, it doesn't budge! The only thing I find with this lipstick is that because it is so matte, it does dry out my lips quite badly, so I always apply a base layer of vaseline to soften my lips.

The second shade is from L'Oreal Paris. It's number 703 Oud Obsession from their Colour Riche collection. I've never owned any of the L'Oreal lipsticks before, but after this purchase I'll definitely be expanding my horizons and buying some more shades. This shade is a browny/red colour and is the darkest shade I own. It leaves quite a glossy look on the lips and is moisturising which is a bonus. I also adore the packaging of this lipstick. The gold makes the lipstick look classy and elegant.

The last shade is from one of my favourite drugstore brands, Rimmel. It's from the Lasting Finish By Kate Nudes collection. It is a more neutral shade compared to the other shades I have mentioned. The finish of this lipstick is very creamy which I love. You do have to reapply throughout the day. As it comes under the nudes collection for a more intense look you do have to apply at least two coats. However, it is a very wearable shade so you could apply just one for a more natural look.

Below are two pictures of swatches and links to the products mentioned in this post.

Swatches from top to bottom:

If any of you have any other statement lipsticks for the winter I'd love to read about them in the comments below!

Review // MUA Heaven & Earth

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a sucker for a bargain and MUA make up is one of my guilty pleasures. The drugstore brand is only sold in Superdrug in the UK but they do also have their own website that you can order from here. (I'm not sure if they do worldwide shipping or if they are sold in other countries!)

I own some other MUA products and recently mentioned one of their brushes in my favourite brushes post which is linked here if you'd like to take a look! I've heard lots of bloggers rave about their palettes so I finally got round to purchasing one. I brought the Heaven & Earth palette and it was only £4.

The palette comes with 12 different shades, all of which are shimmery. I'm very fussy with eyeshadow as I find that some can be very harsh on the eyelid and don't blend in enough and end up looking very blotchy. However, these have a very soft and blend-able texture which is what I love the most about this palette. As the name suggests, the palette contains very natural looking browns, nudes and bronze colours.

Any MUA palette recommendations? Leave your comments below.
